I don’t know about you, but soulful music opens the windows to the deepest, most purified parts of my soul.

What’s even more intriguing is that the genre or class of songs rarely matters. The strings, notes, melody, flow, and words do.

From Christian music to blues, to pop culture, to hip-hop, I have listened to songs that have brought me close to tears or transported my soul through the ferry song stream to another realm.

Our preferences in music may differ, but surely, you too can attest to the alluring powers of soulful music.

So, what is it about soulful songs that’s so alluring?

It isn’t one thing. It’s everything.

It’s the mesmerizing combination of each part of the song that draws us in.

The way the words tell a story and the melody concurs. The way the strings and notes harness the singer’s joys or pain or their contemplations and we mirror it with ours because we feel like kindred spirits to the singer.

How about the tempo? Listening to it rise and sour as the music consumes and demands that we open our heart and let it in.

Have you never felt so heartbroken and exposed after listening to a song? Tell me you’ve never had tears in your eyes or found the liberation you’ve desired just by listening to a song?.

You’ve felt vulnerable under the mesmerizing powers of soulful music. So have I.

What makes soulful music so alluring is the way it reaches into the depth of our souls and asks us to submit to ourselves.

It melts away the walls we’ve built and strokes the weakened embers of our true humanity awake.

That’s what is truly mesmerizing about soulful music.

Why listen to soulful music?

— It heals.

— It’s daring.

— It awakening.

— It’s provocative.

— It’s empowering.

— It destroys our defenses.

— It teaches with intensity.

— It breathes life into our souls.

— It speaks to our vulnerabilities.

— It defies our senses and demands openness.

What other ingredients do you need to experience the mesmerizing powers of soulful music?

The only other ingredient is an open, vulnerable, and willing heart.

Never mind how bullheaded or strong-willed you think you are. It’ll seek you out and demand that you open up to it.

And somehow, you will.

You know why?

It’s because soulful connections are bonds between two kindred spirits. So, when it beckons to you, you’ll answer with all your heart, surrendering to it.

Parting words and my soulful playlist

Soul music means exactly that. Music for the soul. And a daily dose of these amid our chaos may just be what we need to find a balance in our minds.

One more thing.

Here is a short list of my favorite soul music — more like instrumentals and strings — you can add to your playlist.

— Experience by Einaudi

— Dance For Me Wallis by Abel Korzeniowski

— Happiness Does Not Wait by Olafur Arnold

— It’s Has Been Said by Kris Bowers

— Dancing On My Own (Violin Cover)

— Sign of the Times by Steve Horner

One Soul Tip:

Listen to soul music before you begin and end your day.

The health benefits are not only tremendous, but it keeps us in sync with ourselves and our feelings.
